March 14, 2009 12:30pm-4:30pm   Enhancing Function of the Knee Joint                                                         The knee joint is able to move in very complex and adaptable ways. However, daily demands on this very adaptability may eventually result in wear and tear to this joint. In this workshop, we will review:       - How the knee moves "ideally" (biomechanics of joint motion)     - Special challenges by deviations from that ideal including uncontrolled    hyper mobility or internal joint derangements (pathomechanics of knee).     - Ways in which the individual session may be fine-tuned in order to optimize  motion (analysis and coaching strategies).     - Simple adaptations of traditional protocols to maximize function in the knee                  that has already experienced much use (innovative protocols adapted to the individual involving traditional equipment).

Text Box: Irene Dowd Bio Ms. Dowd is on the dance faculty of the Juilliard School and The National Ballet School of Canada. Author of Taking Root to Fly, she has maintained her own studio and private practice in kinesthetic anatomy and neuromuscular re-education for 40 years in NYC. Irene has choreographed for Peggy Baker, Margie Gillis & other solo dancers.            Her work has been taught in schools and dance companies across the US and Canada. Dowd believes that all great teachers, artists and dancers are scientists in the sense they continually investigate, analyze and test theories.
