The Moving Pelvis

When we talk about the pelvis in our Pilates practice the language we often use tends to focus on placement:  “neutral”, “tucked” or “tipped” or we are asking the pelvis to be stable.  In this course we will work to let go of these static concepts of the pelvic girdle in our Pilates practice and explore the deep and varied range of movements, both subtle and large, of our pelvis.  Reviewing the basic anatomy and movement of the pelvis and lower spine we will explore: timing, range, direction and follow through. Using the Pilates repertory as our guide and our playground we will dive into the lively, dynamic life of the pelvis.  Our goal: to move free and open in all directions with strength, grace and balance.  At every twist and turn we will find out that our pelvis has a wonderful moving role to play!

Date: Saturday September 24th
Time: 12:30pm-6:00pm
5 hours CEC - PMA and The Pilates Master Program Approved

Big and Bold Moves:

A journey into Spinal Extension and Arm Standing

In this course, we will work towards the full expression of back bending and arm standing.  With a playful approach and an eye towards alignment, range of motion, strength building and proper mechanics students will take the journey towards these big and bold movements without holding themselves back. Starting from the most basic skills, participants will be challenged to take risks in their personal back bending and arm standing practices, in a safe and lighthearted environment.  We will work together to examine the building blocks for full range and strength, considering the role of the legs, scapula, head and pelvis in all of these exercises.  We will develop new ways of preparing ourselves and our students to successfully move upside down and inside out!

Date: Sunday, September 25th
Time: 9:30pm-3:00pm
5 hours CEC - PMA and The Pilates Master Program Approved

Laura Karpinski Hester, senior teacher at Pilates Aligned Inc., graduated with a BA in Dance from North Carolina School of the Arts in 1998. She danced ballet professionally for several years before graduating from the Pilates Center's Teacher Training Certification Program in Boulder, CO. She has mentored extensively under Cara Reeser.
